That was abrupt!

Looking towards the SW corner of our property
We went from first frost to dead of winter in 24 hours. And not Willamette Valley winter (mild and wet), but what I think of as Midwest winter – clear, sunny, breezy, and COLD. It's beautiful, and nice for a change, but does limit my riding; when mud freezes (nice), so does our arena footing (not nice).

Right now the dogs prefer to be inside near the warmth of the woodstove, and frankly, so do we.

Our fall term of homeschool co-op is over; we (the co-op, not Brian and me) are on winter break until the end of January. After helping my students learn some fiber arts, I look forward to having more time to do them myself! Here are some glimpses of my 5th grade Textiles 101 class:

That's it for a winter day at . . .

My wood stove will get the first fire of the season; next week it's supposed to crash into the 20's. The last couple of days have been wonderfully warm!

It did the same here, but a day or two earlier. It's been 8 degrees (Wed. night), 10 degrees (last night), and tonight is supposed to be about 15. Then we'll bounce up into the 20's. The daytime highs are also going up from 28 to into the 40's. You should see the icefloe on Tang's tank! I make one hole, and fish out all of the ice to help keep it open. I have Holy Ducks (they walk on water) right now. Fortunately, I have gotten all but one or two of my "must be done before winter" projects done. That's better than last year!!

Aengus alternates between in front of the wood stove and in the bedroom. I think he gets too hot... Good to see that your boys have their prioities straight!

We're heading into our first real cold spell . . . a high of 11° forecast for tomorrow. I think winter may have arrived.

P.S. Love the dog pictures!

We were in Portland Wednesday evening and it was very chilly waiting in line for the concert. Then, the next morning when we left, there was definitely a nip in the air. Brrrrr.... even chilly for the coast today!

Well, it's certainly cold here in the Midwest - 13 this morning. Yesterday was the first really cold day. I love seeing what you did with your co-op class :-)

18 degrees this morning here, and up to 28 now... I sure wish we had a roaring fire to lay in front of! The dogs look so comfortable!

I'm so happy to have found your blog. I'm a retired English and drama teacher, and I love knitting, music, and the great outdoors too. I've just returned from an extended vacation, so I will get back to posting on my blog. Nice music videos of the concert...and I do love seeing young people grow in their musical and/or dramatic talents. You can visit me at hightplainsfootprints.blogspot.com. Thanks for the note you left some days ago!!
