The opposite of intense

Yesterday, while hundreds of top athletes were sweating through the first day of the Tour de France, I began the Tour de Fleece by enjoying the blessings of the Sabbath day. After church and potluck, a large group caravanned to Fogarty Creek State Recreation Area, which provided a welcome respite from the valley heat. Still, it was warm enough to play in the cold Pacific,
although Brian did borrow into the sand for awhile to warm up. :-)

I took my "Sabbath spindle" along; it's a Jenkins Aegean in olivewood with Christian symbols carved into it. I didn't get much spinning done,

because I kept getting distracted with photo opportunities.

It was wonderful!

That's it for yesterday from . . .

Great photo of the Black Oyster Catcher! I wish I was at the beach today - it was 93... and got up to 89 in the house. It's just now coming down at 8:30. Tomorrow is going to be hotter, so I may retire to the trailer and the AC.

Awesome picture of the waves on the rocks, my dad used to do seascape painting he would have loved that one. I see another photo contest winner in your future.

I need to get cracking here, once again it is good to be the rookie bringing up the rear. Will put in some time tonight, remember tomorrow is a day of rest already. I spent my day so far filling water troughs 3 times. Only got to be 113 on my thermometer. Next week we are supposed to drop back to the 90's, amazing when you feel 90 is a cool down.

Good job on the photos.

I really didn't FEEL like joining the crowd at the beach, but the promise of cooler weather and Brian's need for social time drove me. Came back tired but so glad I went!

Thanks, Audrey; I would have taken a lot more photos but my battery died! It's pretty easy to get great photos with such awesome subject matter.

13, Sara, Susan and Beth – I LOVE living close enough to the coast for an easy afternoon drive! I'd live AT the coast if I could find horse property and persuade my husband.... That will never happen but that's okay. ;-)

Beth, the water WAS inviting, and I got plenty wet myself (but not submerged like Brian). Usually our coastal waters are uncomfortably cold; it's a rare day when air and water temperatures warm up as much as they did last weekend.

Even at the cost of less spinning, glad you put down the spindle and picked up the camera. The last 2 photos of the group should be colorways. In fact, the very last one, with the oyster catcher, reminds me of Browning's fleece. A few flecks of orange is all it lacks. And the colors of the sea, foam and rocks is another one. The ocean has so many faces.
