Whoa; summer's stampeding!

The light is changing; have you noticed? It's now dark when we do chores. Although it feels very much like summer at the moment - triple digits(!) are forecast for Thursday and Friday - cooler weather and refreshing rains can't be too far off.

Last week was crammed full, what with spending two long days at the State Fair, end-of-the-month payroll at the clinic and three of my clients calling with graphics work. Our Christian trail-riding club scheduled a camp-out this weekend and Rick was thinking we should go, but I couldn't see any possible way to get packed, arrange for dog-sitting and chores AND keep my sanity. In fact, when I think of this month (and beyond) I feel the need to grab hold of something to keep my balance!

September is the culmination of our vegetable gardening efforts, which means continued watering plus lots of picking, preparing, preserving and eating. The rest of the hay we need to get us through until next summer needs to be located, picked up and stored in the barn; same with firewood for the woodshed. Homeschool is in full swing, with the homeschooling co-op starting up again at the end of the month. We have nine close-friend/family birthdays from now through December, followed quickly by Christmas and the birth of my sister's first baby; I need to be figuring out gifts for those occasions.

Rick and Brian will be gone for one week this month, and the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival is in three weeks. I plan to meet Laura there for a Navajo-plying lesson - with some singles I have yet to spin.

On top of that, breeding season starts in a month!

Feeling a bit faint at . . .

Whew! I thought I was busy! I don't know how you are going to accomplish so much... but where there's a will..... :-)

I was wondering if you'd be able to do the Fall trail rides this year. I've always envied those. How is Russell doing?

Nancy, Russell is doing as well as can be expected. It's been four months since he broke off a chunk of bone, and Rick has approved up to 30 minutes a day at a walk with a bit of jogging now. I don't get the chance to ride EVERY day, but do as close to that as possible. I do have a beach ride date with a friend on Sept. 13; we won't be doing any galloping but I'm looking forward to it all the same!

Glad I'm not the only one who has a stupid amount of stuff going on at this time of year. Just keep breathing - we'll make it out the other side :-)

You're going to be a busy girl for quite a while. Laura taught me to Navajo ply - you are in good hands!!
