Almost ready for le Tour

An assemblage of the logos for the Tour and the teams I've joined.

My fiber goals for the Tour. Yes, it is that dark! The braids are 50/50 camel/silk (oooh, aaah; EEEK!), and the black roving they are resting on is from old Inky. I am shooting for two-ply sock weight for all of it. We're supposed to challenge ourselves for le Tour de Fleece, and this should do it. I've never spun anything like camel/silk, or this much black fiber. Since I think I can get two ounces on my Jenkins standard, I plan to spindle-spin the camel/silk, and spin Inky with my miniSpinner. But first, I've got to clear the miniSpinner for take-off:
Plying the superwash merino singles. I was aiming for - you guessed it - sockweight, but I think this three-ply is going to end up finer than that. I'll see how it looks after I wash and whack it.

That's it for now from . . .

I've been looking at the mini-spinner on their website. How do you like yours? Do you use it as much at you thought you would?

As a woman with over 100 lbs. of various fibers stashed to spin, I'm feeling overwhelmed at the amount of treadling (or spindling)involved.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts. And good luck with "The Tour".

Once you've washed it and "whacked" it, the merino will puff up, so it will "look" like sock weight. However, it will compress when worn or knitted, so you may just need to figure on using 1's or 0's for needles!!

Valerie, I LOVE it! I spin so much more now than I did on my wheel, partly because it is so small and unobtrusive that I can leave it on that stack of footstools in the living room and spin whenever I have time - in a comfortable chair, no less. And it is so quiet that I can spin during the evening news and it doesn't bother anyone. In fact, I haven't used my wheel since getting the mS; it's either the mS or the spindles.

Thanks, Laura. Since it's destined for another of Romi's shawls, it should work fine.

Wow, that's some mighty fine and fine spinning. Your challenges are going to be great!

s it that time again! I was going to try to do the tour this year, but will be getting ready for visitors later in July - a whole group of them for a few weeks! Can you guess whom they might be???? ;)

Oh Kathy, is Kelly bringing both kids to Grandma and Grandpa's?!? How wonderful that would be! FAR better than the Tour de Fleece. :-) This is my first TdF, because it's the first year I could realistically plan to spin every day. I may have to head back to KS for a funeral, but can still take my spindles.

My goal is to just spin. Maybe by the end of it I'll be ablel to produce s decent yarn.

Your Tulip Swan will handle 2 ounces, no problem. Mmmm, camel & silk! And that wonderful black wool is going to be luscious yarn.

Christine, that's my #1 goal, too - to SPIN!

Wanda, a friend has convinced me to shift gears a little, so the camel/silk is going back into stash for now....
