Mission (mostly) accomplished!

As hoped, we got the roof on the new Ram Ramada yesterday. The roofing materials were all leftovers from previous projects (tar paper and roofing screws) or recycled from previous structures (wood, tin). We also have the sides somewhat secured. A neighbor had some used horse panels for sale at a good price, so until we can enclose the shed, they will function as walls and gate - with the addition of a bottom board so no one tries to crawl under the bottom pipe. Then all we need to do is build a feeder, and it's ready to use - none too soon, as Blackberry may be coming home this week.

Brian was so proud to be working on a real building project; for awhile now he has said he wants to be a builder when he grows up. He got the tool belt for Christmas, along with a tape measure, clamp, crowbar and small cordless drill (the hammer was an earlier gift).

Speaking of gifts, and (half) accomplished missions, here is the first of two pair of fingerless mitts I decided after Christmas to make for our two rural mail carriers' Christmas gifts. (Thanks to Morgan the Easter Egger for this morning's prop.) I used this pattern and some unidentified black yarn from my stash, and got quick gratification - cast on Jan. 6 and cast off Jan. 9. I thought this pair looked appropriately manly for the male carrier; now I need to figure out what pattern and yarn to use for the lady carrier's mitts so I can get these winter gifts to their intendeds!

That's it for now at . . .

Congrats on the new ram quarters. It's always nice to know everyone has shelter from the weather. Your manly mitts look great. (Especially like that you made the cuff ribbing longer...and, by the way, the thumb looks like you did a good job!)

Thanks, Dianne! I chose this pattern because it HAS a thumb, but you don't have to do any separate fiddling to make it. You just increase, bind off, and keep knitting, all in the round; very easy!

flip the panels over, and they won't crawl out... Like the mitts, you could add cables to the lady's version - no color changes, and it goes fast!

I need to build 4 out buildings substantially like yours - 1 for chickens, 3 for turkeys (to come). Chickens will be first, scabbed on to the side of the barn.

They both look really good (the quarters and the mittens ;-)

Your ram quarters look great! Our boys insist on destroying anything we put up, so they have their tree and that's it. I love your fingerless mitts - what lucky mail carriers!

Michelle,
You are so thoughtful to make mitts for your mail carriers. They probably from now on will throw away all your bills and only give you "good" mail.
Your son is adorable.

I can't even begin to express how jealous I am at your ability to work outside this time of year. Lookin' good!

I like these mitts too! And the egg. Thanks so much for the mitt pattern link too. These I should be able to accomplish fairly quickly, though now I have to decide whether to wait to knit them or interrupt my socks in progress.
