Home again, with a Breezy bulletin

We got home (later than planned, as always) last night from Cowboy Camp Meeting safe and sound. We had a great time and I took lots of photos, but I know there's only thing any of you are really interested in. In short, we bought the perfect pony, and if we hadn't recognized it, a dozen people were happy to point it out to us - and take her off our hands if we'd been willing to part with her!

Here Brian is showing off his new pony to some friends, who were impressed with her - and her tack! (The gentleman is a saddlemaker.)

Here he is ready for his first trail ride:
Heading out:
Showing the confidence and independence we hoped Breezy would give him:
Thrilled with the newest "B" at . . .

Oh I'm so glad Breezy worked out way better than hoped!! Does this mean Brian's other horse will have to find a new home or just wait until he gets his confidence way up?

Good for Breezy she does have a nice side. Hope Brian takes to horses better now since he might have known something about his new pony you did not see right off. Good choice!

Garrett, Breezy should fit Brian for several years. I am hoping Rick will be willing to "rehome" Brian's other horse, as none of us like to ride him and we STILL don't have room for four equines. I even know someone who would take him off our hands and give him a good home! Fingers crossed....

Wonderful acquisition for your son! Sounds like you had a great time, as did he!

Hey Michelle, I just have to ask!! Would you like a little ketchup with your crow? I'm so very happy that you've changed your mind about Breezy. There were tons of people saying what an awesome little pony she was. I'm sure you were lucky to get her. And...Oliver had a most excellent time at our house over the weekend. He spent some time in the front pasture where he had some graze and shade since it was so hot. Then, we turned him out with our horses when we took Ladde and Harley camping at Flying M for 2 days. He's in love ... or maybe it's lust...not sure which, but he was obviously enamoured of my friend's young mare and spent a good deal of time wooing her. And, when he tried to get acquainted with Kadie, Siri showed him just how quick and agile she was. Wild Thang was back!!! Ollie is super respectful of the little mare. Too funny!! Glad you guys had such a good time and are home safely.

Well Lorie, I'll pass on the ketchup because today, here at home, it quickly became apparent that my first impression wasn't totally wrong; Breezy is a different pony in an arena than she is on the trail. She is RING-SOUR. And while it is WONDERFUL for Brian to have a safe trail pony for horse-camping, we don't have any trails left around our house because of all the development in the last ten years. Brian got frustrated pretty quickly today when he couldn't get her to obey in the arena.

I was wondering how she would work out! I'm glad it went well.

And I wanted to mention that I really like the socks you're working on too.

I wanted to mention how much liked those socks too. Happy to read that Breezy was so great over the weekend, sorry to hear that it's a different story at home in the ring though. She's a very pretty pony.

Hi Michelle,
Welcome back! When I was reading your post, the thought did come to my mind, that maybe the old gal was just tired of arenas and such. It's a shame really, but at her age, I can see where she is tired of it all. You can see she was really just 'enjoying the scenery' in the trail photos. When I had my mare, Lady, she did more 'sight seeing' while out on rides than I did! I had to make sure we stayed on the path..ha..I hope you can find a solution. She is a gorgeous little girl.

Do you have a local pony club nearby? Maybe she'd have more fun doing "games"?

She looks just perfect. Love the fancy tack! I've not ridden with a western saddle since I was in Wyoming. Brian looks quite the part :o)

i'm glad Breezy if working out well for Brian! You know, it could just be a little something like my old pony...she was used to getting her way and misbehaving whenever it suited her, especially when it came to leaving the barn. But once I learned to assert myself and SHE recognized that, the problems evaporated. Maybe just a little more time on the rider's part and happier times will be ahead.

Actually, I've had several horses that were soured on some aspect of riding, and all were able to be resolved in a relatively short time. It just took consistency, firmness, and praise.
