Our first "3-egg day," and a product endorsement

Tonight when I did chores, I checked for eggs one last time, just in case. (I'd already picked up two earlier in the day.) Hurray - a three-egg day! Considering what I paid today for a 50# bag of layer crumbles, they are awfully expensive eggs, but they are ever so much more satisfying than those you get in a carton at the store.

Since it was dark when I did chores, I would have been checking for eggs using the Braille method (which could have been quite unpleasant had there been another casualty) had I not had on my nifty lighted baseball cap from L.L.Bean.The first time I saw this hat on L.L.Bean's website, I was struck by how handy it would be for after-dark walks and night knitting in the car, but wasn't willing to pay the price plus shipping for the convenience. But then the hat went on sale, and I bought one. I've used it twice now that it's dark sometimes when I'm doing chores, and it works wonderfully - bright, hands-free light! It's not washable, but that's okay by me. I don't do hats as fashion accessories, so if it gets grungy, so what?

That's it for now at . . .

COOL HAT! I use the headlamp, myself, but a hat like that looks really useful.

Soon you'll have more eggs than you know what to do with! Madonna is laying again. I'm getting an egg a day and that's just right for me. I know what you mean about them being very expensive eggs and agree that they are more than worth it. Plus, we get the pleasure of the chickens' company!

I have a Bean headlamp (minus the hat) and have found it to be indispensable during lambing and night time feedings. There is SO little daylight in the winter months! Nothing like having good light AND two free hands when doing those late night barn checks...

Love the hat Michelle - wht will they think of next.
Aren't your own homegrown eggs just the best - the store bought ones are garbage. Of course - I came back to find 20 new chicks hatched in the barn - we have more eggs than we know what to do with, and my son hates gathering them.
Time to put the sign out.
