Casting on before taking off

As Sharon said in the comments, choosing one's traveling knitting is at least as important as packing. Here is mine:It's the beginning of the coin lace and cable wrap in two strands of Becky's beautiful purple yarn. I hope I can do something this complicated while traveling with my family (I already messed up in my first attempt to get through one pattern repeat and had to rip completely; this is my second attempt). If not, I am also taking my laptop and have three clients' jobs to work on; fun, huh?

I have so much more to blog about but don't know when I'll find the time. Last night Rick and I enjoyed three hours of the incomparable Garrison Keillor live at the Oregon State Fair. This morning I had to do a WWF Smackdown of Braveheart (only realizing after the adrenaline rush that I got a couple of good scratches out of the deal). And it sounds like "Holly" is going to be "Inky" again.

That's all I have time for now at . . .

Smackdown, huh? What did he do?

As for keeping track of your pattern, I use the smallest zip ties as stitch markers - put one in for the beginning of each repeat and one at the end (before the edge)- you will always know if you've messed up, and where you have to fix it. This is great when traveling, and saves lots of headaches.

Have fun!

I wish there had been pics of your WWF knockdown....I would have bet on you, knowing you'd be quite the contender!:) So....Inky?? Brians idea? inquiring minds want to know!

Hey Laura, I'm not sure I understand your knitting tips and would like to pick your brain. Would you email me? (There's an "email me" link in my blog on the right.)

As for the smackdown, I was leading Braveheart out of the fold to his pocket pasture when he swung his head at me -- and then did it again with more force. I roared at him and then went to flip him -- unsuccessfully at first. Somehow, I ended up on my butt with him on his back between my thighs, where I proceeded to pinch off his nose and yell "NOOOO!" I trust that put me back in "top ram" position....

Oh, and Inky (her original call name) is Rick's pick. Just tryin' to keep the boss happy.... :-)

Oh gosh - don't feel bad - I was trying to do a simple feather and fan scarf pattern last night while watching the convention, and lost a stitch somewhere around the third repeat . . . frogged and started over, and I don't have anyone else around to distract me :-D

Ah, the hormones have begun in earnest, have they? Some "peepul" around here are getting a might "testy" themselves. LOL!

Remember to wave as you go over!

I am having more daily contact with my rams than usual since I have to catch everyone to pen them up in the evening (to try to prevent coyote attackes) and then release them every morning. So far, none of the three guys had been "ungentlemanly" toward me, but I know that attitudes can change this time of year.

I carry a crook with me when I go into my ram pasture. They focus on the crook like a bull in front of a red cape. It helps a body stay clear.

It is usually the yearling boys who need to be wrestled to the ground a time or two. They tend to be the social climbers.

I love the color. Once you have the pattern set you'll be good. Get Laura's thoughts. She's always my go-to person when I'm stuck. I emailed her yesterday for tips on knitting ear-flap hats since I can't find any patterns that look like they would actually fit a human head. She made one for Ian years ago that was perfection but he gave it to the first admirer, as he does with all the hats I have made for him.

Oh, Lucky You! I love Garrison Keillor - he is going to be in B'ham some time this fall, but I think it is going to be when we are out of town.

I read the Wrensong blog earlier today and your girls look happy in their new home.

Have a great vacation. Looking forward to hearing all about it. T.
