Thats Ariel's favorite spot too--right in front of the fan. She likes to lay all over the cord too, and I'm constantly fussing around and trying to move it. Boone likes his pool the best, but would be happy with a pool AND a fan! Is that an orphan baby bird?

Yes, that tiny baby was laying in front of the sheep fold gate in the gravel yesterday morning, with Jackson pestering it. It was younger than any I've managed to save, but I just can't walk away or step on them to end their suffering quickly. It did really well part of yesterday but seemed to be fading some last night. Sure enough, this morning it is gone. But I feel somewhat better for trying.

I've fledged house finches that were younger than that - grind up bird seed in your coffee grinder, mix with smashed up hard-boiled egg, add warm water. Put a 2.5 to 3" piece of fish air tubing on a 3cc syringe and put the tube down into the crop of the birdlet and feed every two hours except at night (mom and dad don't feed them at night). It will live and think you're it's mom.

Good luck!

I'm sorry it didn't make it, Michelle...

If it had fallen anywhere near my chickens, they would have instantly been on it and that would have been its end. It was good you tried.

Have to laugh at Jackson...:) I do hope you all get some relief. It's been hot here too and I can hardly wait until the monsoons get here. The kittens have been zoo-y all day, so maybe the weather is about to change!
