To dye or not to dye, that is the question

Last week I got the chance to ply the Dorset (from Gracie) and the Blue Texel singles. My intention was to dye the resulting two-ply with Sarsaparilla (blue) Landscapes dye I picked up at Woodland Woolworks (it would be my first foray beyond the Kool-Aid Kingdom). I'm still tempted, but the natural colors also woo me. I only have around 100 grams of yarn, so there's not enough to leave some natural and dye some. Carol did a project with overdyed black Shetland and white Wensleydale that is striking. What do you readers think? To dye or not to dye? And then, what to knit with it?

Awaiting your feedback at . . .

You didn't tell us how much of that yarn you will have - enough for a hat? sweater?? socks??? For a sweater, I'd use the ragwool effect, but I say that because I already have and love that sweater. If it's for a smaller project that you might need to supplement other yarns, I'd dye it and blue would also be my choice.

Well, I DID note that I only have about 100 grams of this yarn, and while I have not skeined it off to count yardage, it's not very fine so it won't be a lot. I haven't learned socks yet, and I don't wear hats. I do think it would make a handsome hat, though, so I may have to make one and put it in my gift stash and wait for the proper recipient to come to mind!

I vote "yes" to dyeing, and a hat sounds wonderful! Blue would probably be my choice as well...

I think you should dye it. That should be enough yarn for a hat for Brian, no?

Having plied white/dark singles before, and seeing the affect, I would say dye it. The contrast is just too great.

Well, everyone has outvoted me. I guess I'm too much of a natural woman but I'll put my two cents in regardless.

Don't dye, Michelle. You're too young and have so much going for you. ;-)
