That's a whole lotta stiff critters!

During our Christmas visit to Washington, we went to a big, new Cabella's just across the Idaho state line to pick out our Christmas present. (If you've never been to a Cabella's store, think of it as a sort of theme park for hunters and fishermen.) Years ago Rick and I used to get Cabella's catalogs, but we had never been in a store. This one is less than a year old, and HUGE. They probably stock everything a sportsman could wish for, and then some. And to prove how effective such gear can be, there were dead animals everywhere -- over the front door, up on the wall, in exhibits at ground level, on the menu in the cafeteria -- and a mountain covered with stuffed animals right in the middle!
You'd have to visit a zoo to see a greater variety of creatures (they had a big African exhibit, too). It really was fascinating . . . as long as I didn't think about how I'd feel if I was the one pulling the trigger and watching those animals crumple. Killing anything but poisonous snakes would be extremely difficult for me to do; it's hard enough when Rick has to euthanize animals who are suffering. If you can do it and use the meat, more power to ya; I'll stick to my vegetarian fare. Oh - what did we pick out for our Christmas present? A countertop "Gardenmaster" food dehydrator!

That's it for now at . . .

We just got a Cabela's here and they tore out a lot of native habitat to build it. Go figure~ I'm jealous of your food dehydrator. Years ago when I was a wanna-be Mother Earth, I had one, sprouted my own sprouts, had a garden, baked my bread, yada, yada, yada, and today, because we're snowed in, I'm baking the first bread probably in 20 years - thanks to a neighbor's gift of sourdough for Christmas.

There's a Cabela's in Phoenix area now, but we go to the Bass Pro Shops In Las Vegas when we go...I never seem to make it out without a new fishing lure or some foody thing. I love to look at all their animals, too. I could stay in there all day long, looking, drooling over the rifles, fishing gear and clothes. The only thing bad is they have a couple of waterfalls in there and in some places you can't hear what is being said by anybody.

Thanks for all the photos! I found them very funny, in an admittedly disturbing way. ;) Wow. I don't think I could work in a store like that. I feel guilty looking at the animals in the zoo & they're still moving.
