Warming up the needles

I've finally started one of this year's knitting goals: the sweater sampler out of Jacqueline Fee's The Sweater Workshop. Last winter, when I was still dog-paddling with scarves and hats, this project seemed daunting, but now that I've gained more experience, it's smooth sailing.

And just in time! Rebecca (aka Shepherd Chik) just held a Bloggapalooza contest on her blog, and lucky me, I won her gorgeous 7 oz. skein of handspun Shetland lambswool/angora yarn! It might become my first shawl or shrug, but then I got to thinking about using it in a dressy sweater. I can see its soft loveliness at the top of a body knit from the black superwash Merino I'm currently spinning. Whatcha think?

(By the way, Becca has LOTS of yummy yarn and coated fleeces available for sale, if you'd like some of your own!)

That's it for now at . . .

Now I'm embarrassed! That is cheap-o Red Yarn acrylic yarn; I didn't want to "waste" GOOD yarn on a sampler. But I do like the color, and I have a dark evergreen yarn for the contrasting color exercises. I may use the same yarns for a wash-and-wear sweater for Brian after I finish the sampler....

I am SO impressed by your knitting Michelle! I watched your progress on the Baby Surprise Jacket with interest because I have never knit anything other than shawls & scarfs (and a blanket that I'm working on now, and LOVE). I want to try sweaters or socks but keep going back to shawls... Do you recommend that book for a first time sweater?

P.S. Congratulations on winning the yarn! (brat!)

Yay! She's finally going for it! WaHoo! I plan on finishing my sampler at the hospital - a captive audience,so to speak.

And you're right - Becca does have wonderful fleeces! :)

Ohhh, the Sweater Workshop! I have that book and it's wonderful - even if I've been knitting for more years than I care to count. DH's wedding vest pattern came from this book. Have fun!
